Neck pain can sneak up on you in the most frustrating ways.
One day you wake up with a stiff neck after what you thought was a good night’s rest. From time to time, long hours at your desk leave you with frustrating aches & pains. Sometimes, you notice stiffness & burning as your posture slowly shifts forward after a long afternoon project.

Neck pain is one of the most common complaints I see as a chiropractor in the Kansas City area.
The good news is that relief is closer than you think—and you don’t even have to leave home to find it.
Lifeway Mobile Chiropractic brings professional chiropractic care directly to you, making neck pain treatment not just effective but also utterly convenient.
Let’s take a closer look at what causes neck pain, how chiropractic care can help, and what you can do today to start feeling better.
"Why Does My Neck Hurt?"
Your neck is a remarkable structure, supporting the weight of your head (about 12 pounds) while also allowing for flexibility and movement. Basically, you're balancing a bowling ball on a flexible toothpick all day! This makes your neck prone to strain, injury, and degeneration.
Some of the most common causes of neck pain I see in my practice include:
Neck pain from sleeping – Ill-fitting pillows, stomach sleeping, or a mattress that sags can lead to waking up sore and stiff.
Poor posture – “Tech neck.” We spend more and more hours looking down at phones and laptops every year. You hardly use technology, you say? Crafting, caring for small children, and spending the afternoon with a good book put your body in the same position and cause the same symptoms!
Stress and tension – Emotional stress can build up in your body and your nervous system. Have you ever said, "I carry my stress in my shoulders"? 🎯
Accidents and injuries – Whiplash from a car accident, sports injury, or even a day on the roller coasters at Worlds of Fun can create lingering pain.
Arthritis or degenerative changes – Over time, wear and tear on your spine can create chronic discomfort.
"Should I See a Chiropractor for Neck Pain?"
The chiropractor is a smart choice for neck pain relief; in fact, I'd say there's no better place to start!
My treatment for neck pain addresses both soft and bony tissues, because muscles and joints must work together for health and movement. This 2-pronged approach gives you the most effective care and the most thorough results.
Through gentle chiropractic adjustments and muscle stretching & strengthening, I help to:
Relieve muscle tension and stiffness
Improve flexibility and mobility
Reduce inflammation around irritated joints
Promote healthy posture and good balance
Increase range of motion
Prevent future flare-ups
But the best part is that you get MORE than just pain relief from chiropractic care! When your spine is healthy, aligned, and moving well, your whole body works better and heals more naturally because your brain and body communicate more clearly.
Neck Pain Relief: DIY
It's understandable to want to try stretches for neck pain at home. If you’ve ever:

Felt miserable while spending time with family or friends because of neck pain
Had trouble driving because you couldn't look over your shoulder
Ended your day with pain at the base of your skull or a headache
Kept pain relivers stashed everywhere-- your bag, your car, and your desk
Joked that you're so old that you can hurt yourself sleeping
...I have a free gift for you!
I've created an easy-to-follow guide showing 5 exercises you can do when your neck hurts or you can't turn your head. These simple movements help:
Increase mobility
Dissolve trigger points
Release neck & shoulder tension
Relax and lengthen muscles of neck rotation, flexion, and side bending
Retrain postural muscles and spinal structures to naturally and comfortably hold a strong, healthy posture

For long-term neck health, here are a few chiropractor-approved tips:
Watch your sleep position – Back or side sleeping is best, because stomach sleeping forces your neck into rotation, stretching & compressing sensitive tissues. Sleeping with your arms above your head narrows the thoracic outlet, an important passageway for nerves and blood vessels. This narrowing can cause pain, numbness, and tingling in the arms or hands.
Choose the right pillow – The impact of this one is HUGE. Your pillow should support your head and encourage a neutral neck posture.

Check your mattress – If it’s sagging or unsupportive, your joints and muscles can be painfully stressed through the night.
Stretch gently before bed – Make a habit of light stretching to release stress from the day and reduce morning aches & pains.
If these adjustments (see what I did there?) don’t solve the problem, that’s where chiropractic care comes in. A mobile chiropractor can assess whether misalignments in your neck or spine are causing your pain and make targeted corrections.

FAQs About Neck Pain and Chiropractic Care
Q: How do I know if I should see a chiropractor for neck pain?
If your pain lingers more than a couple of days, keeps returning, or limits your ability to move freely, chiropractic care can help.
Q: Can chiropractic care fix “tech neck”?
Yes! Through adjustments and posture guidance, chiropractic care can correct forward head posture and reduce the strain of tech neck (or sewing neck, baby-adoring neck, and bookworm neck).
Q: Is it safe to have my neck adjusted?
Yes. Your first visit includes a thorough review of your health history as well as an exam to make sure chiropractic care is right for you. In addition, there are many ways to adjust, and your chiropractor will choose a technique that's appropriate for your specific needs.
